Every time I download Microsoft updates from the internet my e-mail defaults to Outlook instead of Outlook Express. It's driving me crazy. Outlook Express is set on my computer as default but it still overrides. How can I prevent this?

Set your default email client back to Outlook Express (for the last time), find your Office installation CD and then go to Control Panel|Add/remove Programs and then click on Office, when asked if you want to uninstall or repair select Repair. A new window will open, select Custom and then deselect Outlook and OK. You will probably be asked for the Office CD, put it in and away you go. Effectively what you are doing is uninstalling Outlook (I think this is the order, its been a long time - just make sure you do a repair and select custom when asked). Then go to windows update again, just in case the repair has uninstalled some office updates.

Microsoft seems to think that if you installed Office with all the defaults you want to use Outlook.

Many thanks Geoff. All I've got to do now is scrabble around all the CD's and try and find the right one. Let's hope this works.
