Why is that the British constantly moan about never having a summer; it's hot for THREE WHOLE DAYS and everyone complains and now when it started to rain the WHOLE OFFICE CHEERED!! What's that all about??

It means people can communicate and bond together without either prying into privacy, or releasing personal info, both definite no-no's for our button-up race! The fact that we can have four seasons within twenty minutes simply adds to the variety. Imagine if you lived in Alaska - "Cold isn't it?" "Uh-huh" I mean, where's the bonding and mutual conversation in that?

Sadly (but perhaps correctly), foreigners who stay here for longish periods see the British as inveterate moaners, superficially friendly but awfully impersonal and cold, terrified of anything that suggests change, paranoid about loss of privacy and (wait for it) quite often Brits are perceived as being dirty (particularly w.r.t. public hygiene - recent news, suggesting your biggest risk of getting serious disease is in the country's hospitals, will not help). As always, there is a risk of stereotyping even though the supposed traits are neither flattering or universally applicable but in the end tolerance is the answer.
