Xmas Present for my Wife
14 Answers
Dear all,
I want to buy my wife some nice perfume for Xmas. I was wondering if any ladies(or men come to that) could give me some suggestions. She is 40 so I dont want something that smells like its for a teenager but want something sexy, sophisticated and alluring but not too over powering.
Any response is greatly appreciated. I know the smell depends on skin chemistry but I want to get it as a surprize. I also get fed up spending ages trying to get served this time of yr in well known chemist shops where you end up with a handfull of tester cards where you have to wait ages to let the small settle down by which time my nose has stopped working and the kids are using the testers as mace. Many thanks jay.

sorry to be a dampener, but I think perfume is such a personal thing as you have to wear it all day long, you've got to love it.
perhaps you could try perfumed body lotion instead which has a more delicate fragrance. then if your wife likes it, you could always buy her the matching perfume for a birthday/anniversary/valentines (whichever is next!)
otherwise, anything by the top brands (armani, chanel, calvin klein etc) are usually better bets than fashion brands as they tend to wear better and be less cloying. i wear escape by calvin klein and have often had comments from people saying it smells lovely.
good luck though - sounds like you have a lucky wife!

I am 40 and I love wearing any of the Molton Brown fragrances. Heavenly Gingerlily is one of their best sellers and I think suits lots of people. They also do a shower gel and lovely body lotion with a hint of crushed pearls which gives your skin a subtle sheen too. (not an over the top teenage glitter look!) You can get it in most department stores or via QVC or the Molton Brown website so could save a lot of footwork also. If you're feeling very generous there are other items in the range too such as candles.
Thanks very much for everyone your time and comments they have given me some great starting points. It's just when you go into a perfume shop it's just a bit overwhelming and it's a job to know where to start. I have smelt some nice ones on ladies when I'm out and about but I'm a bit worried about asking them incase they think I'm trying to pull or I'm a perv. lol Thanks again.
