My BF and I are attempting to replace our emmersion heater tomorrow. WAHhhooooo! I've been quoted CRAZY prices for various tools and parts, basically I've been told that a New Emmersion will cost approx 10-12, and the special spanner will be 4.50, (Plumb Centre quoted me 25.50!!!!). Anyway what other tools, products, advice etc will we need, and any problems you may anticipate us having! We are Emmersion Heater virgins so be gentle with us!

I suspect that you a really referring to an immersion heater. If it's only the heater itself that you are replacing then it shouldn't be too difficult. As there are so many types you would be advised to ask the supplier for fitting instructions, or you could google for the particular model. No 1 tip .... don't forget to turn off the power and water.

Agree with norman, I tried to remove an immersion once and it was sealed with plummers mate: I bent the immersion spanner (5 from Do-it-All) and put a great dent in the actual tank before giving up. I changed the tank and fitted the new immersion with only the fibre washer and it has been good as.
Nelli let us know how the immersion heater virgins managed with their Saturday task. Hope that it all went ok without incident.

Thanks guys!! Wouldn't you believe it,but my other half never got round to it, so I'm still washing my hair in cold water!, I'll definately try the thermostat tonight though, (I can do that) Glad to hear that a new tank isn't as much as I thought. Really appreciate all your advice, will let you know how I get on. :-)
