I have my PC connected by a quite long telephone extension over a doorframe, and it seems to work OK.

We are getting a laptop for the family at Xmas, and I intend to connect it wirelessly. I am not intimidated by computers, but have no experience of wireless or local networks.

Should I connect the PC wirelessly aswell?

PC World seem to have a reasonable ADSL wireless thingy by Linksys. Are they any good?

Linksys, Belkin, Netgear, etc., are all good brands for this stuff.

If you have ADSL broadband via your phone line, then get an ADSL modem+router in one. They have good prices and good service at http://www.ebuyer.com.

You can connect the PC wirelessly too if you want, but it'll be more reliable/stable wired, so if it's close by you may as well just use wires. Up to you really though.
Linksys, Belkin, Netgear are all awful brands don't buy any of these brands.
I have to say mine is wireless using Linksys and it works brilliantly with no problems. It was wired up by my son who is a PC consultant and knows I like things done properly so I would definitely recommend Linksys.
That wasnt very constructive Carby, was it? You dont say why or who you do recommend.

Personally my wireless network is all Netgear and I have no complaints.
I've used all three brands and never had any problems. I've also heard good things about all three brands too, hence why I said I thought they were pretty decent.
