In an easy way to explain it is an act that prohibits banks companies etc giving information to other people about your account or other information that they hold about you, needless to say it is a bit more complicated than this but this is the main part.trust this helps, even shorter " data about you that is protected"

its a piece of legislation that prevents someone at the doctors telling my wife that there is a letter waiting for me to collect!
