The pressure switch is set at 3 bar so if the boiler over pressurises this valve cuts in at 3 bar & you will see water drippinh out of the pipe outsie the boiler. The overpressuring can be caused by a number of reasons - the filling loop faulty & or left turned on. Blockages in the system. if the switch was not fitted the pressure if it built up would have to release from somewhere. For example at a pipe os a raidiator connection.
You're boiler is most likley cutting out because you have too much pressure in it. Once it hits three bar the saftey valve will open and dump the contents of the system out side and cut out. You only need to fill it up to approx 1 bar when it is cold and static. Filling it to nearly 3 Bar is far too much as when the boiler is on and the water heats and expands it is taking the pressure up over the threshold of the safty valve. So make sure you only have 1 Bar in it and take off the filling loop after you have filled it just in case it is faulty and still putting more pressure in it when you think it is turned off. It should not be connected permently !!! and is only used as a temp means to fill up the system.
