Computer keeps going into standby mode
2 Answers
Well I think that is what is happening, I have my standby mode set to > Never.
Whilst using my PC which is a good spec PC running Windows XP, with a 3 year old AOC 19" flat screen monitor, the power indicator light that is normally green, turns yellow and screen goes black, my PC sounds like it is running OK and turning PC on and off makes no difference, however if I plug in a different monitor, that works fine!! and when I plug in my original monitor it starts working again.
Do you think this is a monitor problem?
a PC problem?
A graphics card problem?
or a software problem?
any help much appreciated!!

I'm assuming that the indicator light you are referring to is the one on your monitor, not the one on your computer. This will turn yellow if it ceases to sense a video signal from the computer.
I can suggest two possible causes:
1) you have set your monitor to turn off (in the screen saver settings), in which case, it comes back on when you fiddle with it purely because the mouse gets moved!
2) You have a faulty lead or plug on the monitor. This would seem the most likely.

Hi rojash, thanks for your help, It is the light on the monitor that goes to yellow, if the monitor is disconnected from the PC, I get a window pop up to say that no signal is being received but I don't get this window come up when it all goes black and yellow light come on.
I have changed the cable to the older type as I have the option of two different plug types on my monitor and PC, I will see if this makes a difference.
I only get the problem one every week or so, meaning I wont know if anything works for a while, so fingers crossed.
PS, Its not the setting in screen saver and it doesn't come back on by moving the mouse.
I think it may be the leads or plugs as you suggested!
We will see!!
Again many thanks!!
