Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night (Playstation)

Is this game as good as everyone seems to say it is? I've just won an auction for it on the American ebay (got it for $50) so I am just waiting for it to arrive now.
I've never played a Castlevania game before and I'm not sure what to expect!. From what I have read this game is considered to be one of the best 2D games ever? Would you agree with that?

I loved the game, at the time though tracy. You know as with a lot of games though, memories deceive what games are really like, and although i loved it at the time, i think it was because it was better than anything at the time, but all said and done, for your sake, i hope it's still as great as i remember and turns out to be a great game for you.
BTW, will your machine play an american game?

Yes it will, I had my Playstation modified many years ago and most of my collection for it is either American or Japanese - I just couldn't stand any more dodgy pal conversions with huge black borders! (remember Tekken 3? Nasty!)

As people are still prepared to pay plenty of cash for Castlevania (I watched a few pal versions going for around the �40 - �50 mark on the UK ebay) I am also hoping it's a great game - especially, with you now included, I've yet to come across anyone with a bad word to say about it!

Some games never age though (in my opinion of course!). I still play games like Street Fighter 2, Bubble Bobble etc and I've recently taken to searching for a few Playstation games I missed first time around, such as this one. I picked up G Darius last week - how did I miss this one?! It's fantastic ;o)

You're bang on the money there, there are some great squad based games i loved from the PS1 such as X Com: Enemy Unknown, Space Hulk and Syndicate Wars, that i still play to this very day, and if you haven't tried any of these, i highly recommend any one of them. :O)
