Recording streamed sound

Hi All,

Is it possible record a streamed radio station on your computer. i want to record a show this friday night but keep it as a mp3 file as i listen. is this possible?

What sort of stream is it? If it's something that VLC understands, then you can get that to record the stream easily:

http://www.videolan.org

Go file -> open network-> choose the HTTP path of the stream (or whatever protocol it is), and then tick the box for streaming. You can then edit the settings to tell it to make an mp3 file.
Audacity should also record it, though it records everything that passes through your soundcard, so turn any sound schemes off.

Note that LeMarchand's suggestion of Audacity would normally be great but it doesn't have that functionality on the mac version, sadly.

There are lots of other (non-free) apps that do this sort of thing very well though. Here's about the best one:
