Have passed a lot of road works on my way to Southampton where mauve pipes are being laid underground beside the road and would like to know what service has that colour?

Mauve ducts are used for stuff like traffic management systems (matrix signs etc) and traffic signalling.
The ones on the M4 eventually sprouted overhead gantry matrix signs.
Whoever makes them is doing a good trade. They are everywhere by the motorways at the moment.

It's money well spent.

Then we can be told it is foggy , that we are in a queue, or if there is nothing else to say that we should not drive tired or phone while driving. Useful.
You forgot "Don't drink and drive...you'll spill it!" P.B.
If they are mauve then I would guess that the service you refer to must be a Roman Catholic mass.
Or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick?
