Monthly Magazines

My question is why are monthly magazines not released on the month that they are for? an example is a November issue of a magazine maybe comes out the last week of October instead of coming out the first week of November.Can anyone plz help?

good question, i thinks its to make it all so confusing that you subscribe to save yourself the bother of working it out. it has to be some sort of marketting ploy.

Easy - to give it a longer shelf life. Its now November 20th and I go into WH Smith because I want to buy a widget and I don't know anything about them so I'll see if WH Smith has 'What Widget' magazine. Oh yes it does, and its November's issue, so I pay over my �3.95, not realising that the brand new issue of 'What Widget' (this case the December one) usually comes out on the 15th and is delayed.

So ny giving the issue the name of the following month thay make the magazine appear to be current for 6 weeks.

.. and of course at the moment that means the Christmas specials are out ... and by the time I get round to my C'mas shopping, the New Year sales specials will be out!

It probably started by one magazine trying to gain an advantage over its rivals by publishing a couple of days earlier, then another one did it and so on. I subscribe to PC Plus, and receive the magazine much sooner than when it appears in the shops. The slightly barmy scenario is that I received December's issue around October 10th., and I have since received another "Xmas" issue around the beginning of November. I expect January's will thud onto my doormat any time in the next couple of weeks!
