My PC tells me the same everytime it detects the ipod. My guess is that it has nothing to do with you not getting your music onto your ipod and is just a recomendation by windows that if you had a USB2 port then to use that instead.

I think it has something to do with the way your ipod is managed. Try left clicking on the arrow next to the name of the ipod in itunes where all the lists appear on the left hand pane. Then click on the ipod name and a main window should appear to the right.

Make sure you're all up-to-date software and version wise and you can manage your music better by selecting just what you want from your library putting onto the ipod. Press apply bottom right and it should transfer your selections accross to your ipod.
Sounds like you just have USB1 ports... are you plugging it straight into a USB port on your computer, and not through a hub?

If so, just try using iTunes anyway and see how it goes.
The usb ports on older PC's are USB1 and the new ones are USB2, the difference is only the speed of data transfer. If you plug a new fast device into a old USB1 port it will still work ok but just the data transfer will be slower.
