I'm planning on getting an mp3 player for my birthday in may. I've heard that i pods have limited abilities on things like sharing music and thats why I was gonna go for an mp3 player. But are there ways around the i pod problems os is an mp3 player the best choice. Whats your opinion?

What are these limits you are talking about?

I upload music to ipod and download music from the ipod, no problem.

The only 'limits' are with songs from the iTunes Media Store. I suggest you don't buy from there, or pretty much any other legal music store right now. They almost all use DRM to restrict your usage. For now, stick to buying CDs.

Is it true that if you link into someone else's computer with your i pod that you delete the contents of it. That's what I was led to believe.

The iPod system is designed so that one iTunes library can have several iPods, but one iPod should only be linked to one iTunes library.

If you connect your iPod to a new iTunes library (on your own computer in a different user's area, or a friend's computer), then it'll pop up asking what you want to do: sync with this new library, or cancel. If you cancel, nothing happens. If you (perhaps accidentally) tell it to sync, it'll copy across everything from that library to your iPod. If that new library happens to be blank, then it'll erase everything in your iPod too. The syncing just makes your iPod the same as the library you're syncing from.

However, you can use other programs such as Yamipod to copy more music across, or just put friends' music on a flash drive or something then put it into your iTunes library, then connect your iPod like usual and it'll happily copy across and not do anything to your existing music.

You can copy music (or any other files) from one PC to another using an ipod, and it doesn't delete anything if you don't want it to.

You will need some extra non-apple software for copying music, but it can be done fairly easily.

So, at the end of the day, would you suggest an i pod or an mp3 player. Or are they both pretty much the same?

I would go for the ipod every time!!!!
