Biological laundry products

Recently I read a comment on AB from someone who had found that a non-biological laundry washing powder gave excellent results. Coincidence perhaps but I agree, having been advised by a doctor to avoid biological products because of a skin problem. Are these bio-products really any use or just an advertising gimmick to persuade people to buy them?

hi coldicote, my understanding is that they contain enymes which break down and remove stains better than non-bio. they are better at cleaning your clothes but can, as your doc pointed out, aggravate skin conditions. not so good for baby skin either, apparently. so i don't think it's a gimmick.

Thanks for your comments on this iheartruby. I guess you are right, but will not close for a while in case anyone else would like to add their experience or comment.
Non-biologigal powders often contain very harsh alkalines that can't be used in biological powders as they'd kill the enzymes. These alkalines aren't good for the skin either, so have to be really well rinsed out.
You makes your choice...

Thank you heathfield. It' s surprisingly difficult to know the best thing to do. Pity more publicity isn't given to these issues. Perhaps the good old fashioned bar of washing soap could be the best answer. For the time being I'll stay with a non-bio washing powder recommended for baby clothes.
Balls.
Someboy preach to us about balls again. One day I might buy some.
Thre is also the ecological issue of using bio too. I've used both bio and none bio and (in all honesty) did not noticed the difference. Some may 'argue-the-toss' on that issue, which is fair enought. But that's my own feelings based on experience and I don't use bio .. .. haven't done for many years now.

OK, I'm a guy .. .. but I'm also a full time carer too, so I do know what washing laundry is about. :-)
