Selling a less than perfect car!

My car is a Rover 214, P reg with well below mileage. It's worth about 2200 - 2500. However, (!) it has a parking dent on the left side and a small crack on the back bumper. I can imagine they could be both easily fixed by a garage or by someone 'in the know'. How much should I knock of the price? I haven't a clue!!

hmm well given that you've already bought your new car I think you should just negotiate best terms with any prospective purchaser! Other alternative woudl be to ring up a few garages and see how much they would charge then add a bit on for inconvenience

Thanks - i never thought of it that way round! I'll get a written quote and decide whether to get the work done myself or show a prospective buyer the quote and knock it off the asking price. Not in a panic to sell as new car is paid for, I just want to make sure I get the right price for it as I was thinking of knocking a 1000 off and people are saying that is too much.
I'd say 1000 is way too much. I think you also need to look at it this way, its not the cost that will put people off but the damage, so getting it fixed will mean more people will come to see it, therefore increasing the chance of it selling. So check out how much it would cost and then think about getting it done. You can pick up a bumper from a scap merchants pretty cheap.

Thanks! It's booked in a mate's garage for next week to be fixed - he says it's not too bad - probably in the region of 60 to get it looking decent again. So I am not panicking at all now! Thanks for the advice - probably saved me from being 1000 out of pocket.
