Meteorologists amongst you, why is every day so windy now ? In Southern England, the day starts off calm, at 7.30am today it was completely still. Now, 4.30pm, there is a very vigorous wind, my cherry tree is lashing about. I can appreciate it may develop during the day as the sun warms things up - but then we get extremely hot days where there is not a whisper of a breeze. Many of you may not notice it, but to a cyclist who has just pedalled home 20 miles into a headwind, it is a pain ! I have had gusts virtually brought me to a standstill.

The same reason we have a warmer summer and a wetter winter, global warming!!

No-one will take notice and thinks it will go away but if you think that film "The Day After Tomorrow" was just a movie then we all can think again.

Anyway going for a drive in my 4x4 (joke)
I agree with you, by late afternoon, I have to close my windows up because it so windy (I'm in Southampton).
I moved to seaford in sussex 16 years ago and it was windy nearly every day for three years. then it stopped. we moved north east two years ago and now it is blowing again. I think it must be just an occurance that happens ever so many years or I should stop moving!

From North West England. The last few days have been clear blue sky, warm sunshine, but wind of an unusual strength given those features. It is certainly a bit strange. Has the "Mistral" lost its way I wonder?
I live on the south coast, too, on an exposed part and we always have more wind than a mile or two inland. In my early meteorological studies I learnt that the day could start sunny without wind but as the land heats up quicker than water, by the afternoon enough air is rising from the land for the cooler air over the sea to blow inland to take its place.
I think it is the "March winds" getting lost and as for "April Showers" this year ????
Its all those curries!!!

I'm in South West and we don't get the wind, we have been eating dinner on the patio in the evenings, weathers been beautiful.
