Best place to sell jewellery
8 Answers
I know some people might think it greedy, but I am looking to sell my engagement ring(failed relationship). I know there is a huge mark up on diamonds and that I cannont expect to get nearly what it is worth but can anyone suggest a Jewellers in Glasgow where I might expect to get a fair price. Thanks

I would recommend selling at auction in Glasgow as you will get a fair valuation...try http://www.greatwesternauctions.com/
other that this you could try the few remaining family jewellers shops in the Byers Road area of the town for help.
You could of course be dishonest and claim the ring is lost and claim the insurance on it if it's included in your premium.
good luck! i have one from 10 years ago which cost me 500 at the time (and was returned by my fiancee). Proved really difficult to get more than 15% of what I paid for it and every jeweller said to hang on to it for years until it became worth more in value! My Mum has it somewhere in her house (I think) and maybe I will try to sell it again in 10 years or so. Let me know how you get on and then I can perhaps rethink about digging it out again.
There are a few jewellers shops in the Argyll Arcade in Glasgow that specialise in second-hand jewellery and there a couple of shops that specialise in diamonds. I recently sold a cameo and ruby ring in one of the shops there. Don't just settle for the first quote though - shop around for the best price and don't be afraid to haggle!
The problem with Jewellery, apart from the huge mark up is that the price is also for its worth in metals and jewels. For example my wife has a hand made wedding ring which is really just a platinum ring with a mark on it but she paid a lot of money for that exclusivity. But its only worth the price of the metal, the same as any other ring she could have purchased.
Also did you buy it together or did he get it for you. I ask this because a friend of mine claimed his girlfriend had given him a really expensive Platinum ring. He was convinced it was worth something and when I saw it I fell about laughing (they had broken up by this time). It was the cheapest looking ring I had ever seen and was nothing like the weight or quality of platinum.
