Fixing silver collar to porcelain jug

Advice please on cement or glue to fix collar securely and be true to age of item (ie. antique) if possible.

If the jug has any value to you monetary or not, then go to a specialist restorer. If you can't afford the quote, then save. If you do it yourself and it goes wrong it will be difficult, if not impossible to correct.

I agree with woofy. but to answer the question, the most likely cement would be casein based: acidify milk till the solids separate, filter them off, put them in a dish with a minimum of water and a little potassium hydroxide, work into a smooth gum. Takes abotu a day to dry.

Now that's what I call an answer! Wolfgang: specialist not really worth it for the value of item - one of a pair of tiny (5cm high) decorated but unidentifiable tankards. Sadly the collar itself has taken a bit of a battering. incitatus: spot on! Hope it works but it'll be fun trying. Cheers, folks
