If I bought a mobile phone from america will it work in the uk(as in send and receive calls/texts), or is there a specific spec that i`ve got to look out for.

Providing it's triband then I believe you should be OK.

US use a different frequency range to the UK but as you can buy 'phones in the UK which work in the US, the same is true the other way around.
