yep classic v w problem it requires the brake calipers stripping ,freeing off the sliding part the pads sit in, a paste applying to the non friction side of the pad (this stops the horrible squeeking you hear) and the pads refitting and the brakes reassemling (about once or twice a year it needs doing ) my guess its a mk 4 golf at least 40 thou on the clock ,Probably silver as most of em are i know ive got one the same! iit will cost you about50 to 75 quid to get done at a PROPER INDEPENDANT GARAGE NOT YOUR LOCAL HIGH STREET TYRE /BRAKE SPECIALIST it ll cost you double if you go there (sorry to shout but im trying to save you your hard earned here!! ps dont let em try to tell you the pads are shot, if they say they are and you get them renewed always ask for all the old ones to be put in a carrier bag in your boot because your big strapping royal marine boyfriend/girlfriend is gonna be home in a week and hes gonna want to see them to make sure you arent being ripped off this works very well as an "incentive "
