Is it normal for undertakers to be tipped?

have just attended a funeral where the undertakers stood around afterwards as if they were expecting to be tipped. Is this normal practice? It seems a rather inappropriate form of behaviour to me.

We have a family funeral business which is currently being run by one of my brothers and one of my sisters. I've spoken to both of them and neither of them have ever expected or received tips.
The only 'extra' they really appreciate is when a family put an acknowledgement in the local paper (thanking nurses, vicars etc) and they get a mention.

I can only guess they might of wanted to be asked back to the wake.......As some do ask the preist...

My friend worked at an undertakers, and the staff who attended funerals were regularly tipped. She worked in the office, and occasionally got a box of chocs.

we tipped the undertakers at both of my parents funerals.

My dad didn't tip the undertakers at my nana's funeral but he did give �20 to the grave-diggers at the cemetary!

i think it is well out of order ,its not as though they dont urn enough ,i no two undertakers and they drink more than postmen i would never tip an undertaker and i think it is very bad taste for them to expect it at a time of greef
