I have a very good and very efficient dvd player/recorder which I have had for about two years and have not had any trouble with it. However various "experts" have suggested that I should purchase a " laser lens cleaning kit" to keep it in optimum condition.I am sure I have read somewhere that these kits can also be damaging and that some machines have their own cleaning facilities. Can anyone help with this?

The manual of my philips dvd recorder expressly states not to use a lens cleaner.

Have a look at your own manual for guidance.
Were these experts salesmen?

Thank you both for your answeres. Ethel; I have a Phillips recorder which must be a different model to yours because my manual suggests using a lens cleaner as a last resort. dilligaf; to answere your question, they were not salesmen but suggested "They knew a bit about these things". However I think I'll take the advice of you both and not waste money on a lens cleaner. Thank you again very much.
