my battery , starter motor, and alternater have all been replaced. the starter motor is still occasionally failing to start the car. when i turn the key the starter motor turns with a fast whirling clicking noise and the car wont turn over. on another occasion it will start the car. this could happening at any given time.
I have just tried to start the car and it started lovely.
I could drive down the road to the local shops and wallop....''the above problem'' again.
I have done the obvious and checked wiring and any machanical parts for loosness.
The altenator has been tested and it is charging the battery.
Could the fault finally be at the ignition switch?
Desperate to solve this issue.
many thanks.

sounds like a problem with the solenoid on the starter.
You seem to covered most possibilities. If you've replaced the starter motor then it's unlikely to be the starter solenoid. More details on the car would help, age, mileage etc. If it's an old or high mileage car then one possibility is a worn starter ring gear on the flywheel.
Next time it fails to start, try pushing the car in gear, handbrake off, ignition off. You don't have to push it far only about a foot! Hopefully this will move the flywheel round a little bit and then try starting it.
If all else fails NORMAN THE DOC will come to the rescue!
