alternative to a dedicated fax line

Hi, I have a dedicated fax line and pay 25 per month for the priviledge. As I have a separate phone line can anyone suggest a cheaper way of managing my faxes? I have 2-3 faxes per week. I do not like the idea of a box interupting all incoming calls to check if it is a fax unless it is unobtrusive to my callers. Alternatively there are online fax companies. Can anyone suggest a company or fax switch device that works for them? Look forward to your replies. Best wishes.

Any modern combined fax/phone/answering machine will do the trick. I use a Samsung.

Fax sending machines always introduce themselves by sending a repeated "I'm a Fax Machine" beep, so:

When my phone is unattended:
If it detects the IFM beep it switches to fax mode
If not, it answers the call, and asks them to "leave a message after the tone., or press the send button now to send a fax".

If I answer the phone, the caller is unaware that it's a combined fax/phone. If it transpires that it's an incoming fax (which I can tel, from the IFM beep) I simply press "Start" and hang up, at which point it automatically switches to fax-receive mode.

If your pc does not have its own dial up modem/fax you can buy one very cheaply, connect it to your phone line and use your pc as a fax.

Thx Ethel, but I would still need a dedicated phone line for this as I need my call line fairly easily accessible which it wouldn't be if it was connected to the computer.
Your paying too much for less service. Check here for internet fax subsciption at fraction of cost with added features. http://www.ringcentra...g/ringcentralfax.html
Compare different providers with different options and choose the one that suit your needs, here the link for online review sites http://www.internetfax101.com.
have your fax service online. It is very cheap and more convenient because you can access it wherever you go as long as there is an internet connection.
