When I used to drive my truck to the continent using Eurotunnel, both the UK and French sides had (and still have as far as I know) an X ray machine that the whole truck goes through. You drive onto a rail wagon type platform which then takes the whole thing into a building where the X ray gubbins is. Meanwhile you walk round the outside to meet the truck as it comes out. They have loads of photos there showing people and cats and even an 'atheletic' statue! The guys operating the scanner reckoned they could tell what brand of duty free booze you had stashed on your bunk from the picture. They got mine right the time I quizzed them! At the time, the scanners were only used about 2 hrs a day, because of low staffing levels (thats money to you and me!). Seemed stupid to me. All this multi million pound gadgetry and they couldn't afford to operate it!
