Flat battery

Battery flat on1998 Corsa (daughter's) connected my jump leads to it,but there is nothing,no ign.light or anything else.It's been stood 2 weeks without use. Any ideas please.?

iv had the same problem its sounds likeu need a new battery but first check wot cc your corsa is and the other car which uv connected the jump leads the other car should be a higher cc u need to leave for a least 10 min slightly reving the other car als double check the connection on both cars

It makes absolutely no difference what size your engine is to be able to jump start a car. Clearly you cannot jump start an artic with a mini but in normal cars this is irrelevant. MAke sure that the leads are connected properly and the terminals are tight. Increase revs on the donor car to in excess of 1500rpm to ensure that the donor car is drawing from its alternator and has an excess available beyond it 12v battery. Then turn the dead one over. B4 check the cells of the battery, if they are dry hen the battery is cooked and the plates are probably buckled and shorted. Endex battrey and a bill from halfords for you.

Also you should connect the red lead to the + of the 'dead' car and the black lead to a metal part of the engine NOT the - of the dead cars battery.

This will allow the car to start even if the battery is so dead that it will not conduct!



Oh yes, and buy a ney battery!

Thanks for your replies folks,very helpful.
I went to Halfords,got a new battery.When I connected it up
the alarm started and would not stop till I disconnected it
Thieveshad stolen the drivers side mirror,which was the
heated type.I trimmed the bare wires back to the plastic sleeve and used electrical tape to bind them and make
safe,would that cause the problem?
Don't know what to do now.

could be that the alarm was draining your battery. would take a while though and would probably not have been working properly before.

Portland Bill,Yes that's quite possible.
From what I can gather there is a sequence for battery
change on a corsa,of which I don't know.
