Is it true that the word "Marmalade" is a derivitive of "marie malade" the french for "sick mary?" Mary being Mary Queen of Scots who it is said, was offered a concoction made from citrus as a cure for her illness.

No. It originates from being first made from the quince, or, in Portuguese, the "marmelo" . If you ask for "marmamlade here, in Portugal, you get quince jelly. Have a nice day!
