Can anyone please tell me how satnav picks up speed cameras ?

It does not pick them up - they are on the map so it knows where they are
That is correct. Also when you buy a speed camera package they come with monthly updates for newly installed cameras but because of the lag some are out of date so not totally foolproof.

The thing thats annoying is they say 'mobile camera ahead' but is just a black spot where the police may side a mobile camera but often dont.
May be annoying to you Kwicky, but I think its great. It makes you slow down at accident black spots.
