Maximum Halogen lights

We have had 4 R80 spotlights which were wired to the original centre fitting, now replaced with 50w halogen spots. They look nice , but do not give sufficent illumination. My question is, if I remove the spot attached to the center wiring & replace it with a 4 x 50w track giving now 7 spots will this be okay ? or will it overload the wiring. Thanks for any advice. PS. its the kitchen.

Lights are usually on a ring main rated at 5amps = 1100 - 1200w - there should be sufficent leeway to carry the extra load - check with a sparky if you are not sure.

Also make sure the cable to the centre wiring is of suitable size.

it is the load on the breaker that matters for all the downstairs lights or upstairs
so old fuse 5 amp x 230 v = 1150w available
new fuse (mcb) 6 amp x 230 v = 1350 w available
reality is 10 lamps x 100 w leaves some extra capacity to play with
check the existing number of lights that apply to the circuit you are working with and see if there is some room to play with
DO NOT THINK i will never switch them all on at once so i can go over the permitted limit on the circuit and remember you are contemplating using 350w in only one room
why not replace the 50w spots with 35w spots,it not that much different in illumination values and the heat off a modern halogen is too hot to touch so 7 in one room is a lot
