Fridge Freezers
3 Answers
Hi can someone tell me if its still the norm to let a new Fridge Freezer stand for a few hours when taking delivery. Only I bought a new one and the delivery men said let it stand for at least 8 hours, when I looked at the instuction manual it said let stand for half hour before turning it on. I have always known to let it stand because of the gases in it (I think) but because they are so advanced now, I'm not sure. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks

If they've been tilted too far from the vertical, the lubricating oil inside the compressor can get into the coolant gas pipe, and block it. Letting it stand for a while allows any such oil to drain back into the compressor before you switch on. If the manufacturer says this will only take half an hour, then that should be OK.
