Hi,

I have a brand new 80GB Ipod Classic that will not connect properly to my Sony Vaio VGN- A617S laptop.

I am using a 4port independently powered USB2 hub for the connection into the laptop itself.

The Ipod will charge itself using the connection but shows no sign of connecting to I tunes.

The Ipod is not shown as an external drive on the computer itself.

I tried connecting it to my desktop and it starts to synch up but then says I need the latest version of I tunes for it to connect.

The version I have is the latest one!!!

I sent a ticket to apple but got a generic reply about how to organise my music on it....Oh how I wish I could!!!

Your replies and help will be gratefully received

Thank you.

Hi there. I'm not sure what's causing your problem. What I'd try frist is with the ipod on press and hold menu with the centre button to reset it and reconnect when it's reloaded.

For the best help I use the iLounge forum. It's great and has loads of reviews and solutions etc etc fro the ipod. Here's the link to the ipod classic page. hopefully you will be able to get better help here...unless someone answers here of course! LOL

Good luck

Hi Snapdarlich,

Thank you for your reply and the link to the forum, I tried the reset as you suggested but it just did exactly the same!!!

I will source the iLounge forum for further help.

Thanks again

Ted
Btw Ted I'd love to be the bringer of good news, but I get the general feedback that the new classic ipods are full of bugs and apparently resolved problems of previous ipods (eg picking a track on an album and the next one plays) Looks like Apple spent the time working on the iTouch and not the classic.

I own the 3rd gen 40Gb ipod and the first 60Gb Ipod video....Oh and my Classic Ipod 160Gb came last week. Grrr...it's rubbish...they will sort it out...but it's a lot of money to spend waiting for apple to fix the firmware...sigh...Good luck btw!

and...I did mean resolved problems.....they've ignore their fixes and have to sort them out again! LOL Do I sound bitter? For a couple of hundred quid I've every right!! LOL

Hi Snapdarlich,

Thanks for the further info, at the moment I`m treating my ipod as a expensive bit of ornamentation as it`s about as useful as an ornament...wish I never bothered buying the damn thing and stuck with my creative labs MuVo2 which had just run out of space, should have upgraded with a new one of them...still the boss is happy she`s got that one now!!!!

I`ve been away just drowning my sorrows for a couple of days...didn`t work, still p-----d off.

Just registered with i Lounge so we will wait and see what happens.

Cheers
Ted
