Have you tried the reset button, I know it sounds obvious but you never know....
Do you have to press and hold something to relight a pilot light? Have you got a user manual?
If you don't have to re-light a pilot light and it is an automatic combi boiler, turn the boiler off. Run the hot water and leave running whilst turning the boiler back on.
If this fails, make sure you are wearing a coat when you go to bed !
if its a modern boiler with automatic ignition then what happens when the gas runs out is the boilers safety controls recognise the flame has gone out and will automatically try to relight it, when it cannot relight (because no gas) the boiler goes to safety lock out. the boiler will have either a lock-out reset button or you can turn the power off for a few seconds and then back on.
