i live next to a railway line and the side of the house faces the tracks. i've heard there is good money to be made by having billboard advertising on the side of the house. however, i've searched on the net and asked around but can find no information on how to go about this. can anyone give me some information on this subject? who do i contact? how much money do companies pay to advertise? do i need permission from the council? etc etc. thanks.

The leading company is Clear Channel and you will need planning permission. I know one family who own two boards near the M25 in Croydon who earn 40,000+ a year. But it really does depend on the traffic flows and their advertising worth. I believe councils are now very reluctant to give permission for boards especially if there are any light issues for your neighbours.
