The only difference between CD-RW and CD-R is that you can rewrite on RW discs and CD-R disks are permanent.

A CD-R is great for storing photos as you would want them as a permanent backup.

so i could take a cd-r with my pics on to asda put it in the machine and print them? ta
You can take your camera's memory card to those machines and print them. I don't know if they take CDs as I've not used one.
I have certainly taken my photo CD-R to Jessops and printed from that, assume Asda's offer the same service.

Avoid taking your memory card in case you lose it or accidently delete pictures off it.
In the long run it's far cheaper to buy a photo printer (such as Epson Photo series) and then you can print off only the pickies that you want.

If you have a digital camera you can load them onto your PC, edit (resize, crop, distort etc) them using MS software and then print them yourself far cheaper than have others do it for you.

I've just taken an old 36 shot 35mm film in for the photos to be transferred to CD, it cost 3.00. If I'd had it developed and printed it would have cost 4.50. You can see the saving in the long term.

Cheers
