Electricity sockets

We have been living in our first house for six months so I am new to anything Housey / DIY.

In our main bedroom there is (strangely) only one single plug socket. The house is less than 50 years old and is ex-Council and this strikes me as really odd to have only one electricy point in the main bedroom. Anyway, I could obviously use an extension lead to be able to plug more electrical items in in the room but I am not overly keen on using them on a long term basis, the other problem is that, because there is only one socket, even if we use an extension lead we can only plug items in one side of the room or the other. I hope this makes sense to people.

Anyway, my question is, how expensive / big a job would it be to get the single plug socket turned into a double one and to get a further doule socket installed on the opposite wall to the existing one? Somebody mentioned "trunking" to me but I don't know what that is, and I hope to speak with an electrician in the next few days but just wondered if getting more sockets is possible. TIA

Perfectly possible just ask your Sparky whats involved and how much.

Hi natalie you could run a 4 way extension to one side of the bed then another from that to the other side of the bed get some mini 16 x 16 self adhesive trunking from several outlets B&Q/ Screwfix electrical factors fix to top of skirting or there abouts then tuck the cable in dont worry about over loading the single socket because the maximum that you can load is the 13 amp fuse in the plug of the first extension HTH Tez
