Working out ovulation dates

Hi, I am trying for my first baby and need help calculating my ovulation dates!

I have had 2 periods since I have been off the pill, the first was a 29 day cycle and the 2nd was a 32 day cycle! Should I work out the next ovulation windown based on 32 or 29 or somewhere in the middle?!!? Thanks

day 14 of the cycle is typically the day when you should be ovulating. Baring in mind sperm can survive 4-5 days you should have sex before this day. Work out your average, for now as it may take a while to settle down. COunt back 14 days from when your period is due, you will want to have sex about 3 days before this day and to increase your chances, have sex every day until the day you ovulate. So 4 days of sex is best. You shoudlnt have los of sex eac h day as your partner will struggle to keep up with producing that amount of sperm.

If you keep having different lengths oif cycle you may have to consider calculating your fertile days a different way.

Ask your doctor/practice nurse for a free temperature chart to work out when you are ovulating.
You take your temperature as soon as you wake on a morning before you get out of bed. I can't remember if your temp rises or dips at the start of ovulation (the chart will tell you) but it's very accurate and always worked for me.

It rises during ovulation. Conceiving this way Mrs Overall, just wondering have you ended up with all boys?

It's funny you should say that Goody - I lost 3 boys (2 late missed abortions & 1 stillbirth) and I have 2 boys and a girl. They were all planned using the temp method apart from my daughter who was an pleasant accident..

You obviously know something I dont!!!! :)

You can buy ovulation testing kits from the chemist and I would start testing from day 11. Ovulation usually lasts around 48 hours.

Hi - I had trouble conceiving so I bought an ovulation testing machine called Persona - it was fantastic. It was pricey at �100, but I think they have halved in price now. However, the are well worth the money as you know for definite when you ovulate and you get use to your body�s cycle; it is a bit of a guessing game otherwise. I also did a temperature chart and my temperature rose slightly during ovulation.

Im sorry to here that mrs overall. By having sex on the day you ovulate the male sperm will be fertilising it. They swim faster, girly sperm travels slower. So I suspect you and MR overall had a bit of nooky a few days before your ovulation date, hence the girl.

Blimey - thank you everyone! It all seems to complicated! I guess everyone is different - I seem to get minor stomach cramps around the time I am ovulating (I used an online ovulation calculator last time on the basis that my cycle was 29 days!).

I would work it out using the way you suggested Goodsoulette but I am not sure when I am next due - anytime between 29 and 32 days I guess.

Tiggerblue10 - you say to start testing from day 11 - is that 11 days after my period has started? And do I count day 1 as the day I started or the day AFTER I started?! Thanks guys!

this book is helpful whether trying or avoiding getting pregnant. I find cervical mucous as the biggest telltale sign of being fertile. When it's like egg whites!

Day one is the day your period starts.
