Jet aircraft use kerosene
As derbyram says, jets use kerosene highly refined and purified so that it doesn't clog at the low pressures and temperatures at high altitude. Turboprops use the same. Aircraft with piston engines - e.g. flying club type light aircraft - use "Avgas", high octane gasoline, typically 100/130 octane. Put some of that in your car and it doesn't half go!
We used Avgas in the Landrover at my gliding club. As Ewood says, it went really well for a year; until the engine blew up!(Everyone got away with minor burns!!)
