What would happen-specifically- if I was hoovering the bathroom floor and I stuck the suction pipe IN the toilet?! I know nothing GOOD would come of it!! But I just wondered, electrically, what would happen!

Ha ha! No I just have an enquiring mind. I maybe should write to that science programme where they do experiments so we don't have to!
1 atmosphere air pressure is somewhere around 10 metres of water the vacuum cleaner need only generate 0.1 of an atmosphere of suck to lift the water 1 metre.

Therefore it is highly likely that the vacuum will suck up most of the water in the toilet bowl. What will then happen to that water will to some extent depend on the design of the vacuum cleaner (bagless/bag/hepa filter etc).

But I would guess that a fair quantity would be expelled from the vacuum cleaner via its exhaust. I doubt if any of the water (a relatively small quantity) would penetrate the dust seals and get to the windings of the electric motor, but I could be wrong.
Try it and see, and then post the result for us all to have a good laugh at.

Errr BANG normally happens when you suck water up in a domestic vacuum cleaner...
My vax happily sucks up water, but then it's designed to do so. I think the trick is to ensure none of it gets in the motor.

I'm with catmando - do it and tell us.

I'll write to Brainiac.
if it's a wet and dry vacuum cleaner you empty your toilet bowl of water

If it's not one of two things

Vacuum cleaner goes bang

or

Vacuum cleaner goes bang and you die.

Either way may I suggest using a toilet brush or similar to clean your toilet and not a vacuum cleaner
Presumably you sent in your original letter written in wax crayon because "they wont let us use pencils in this asylum"

Sigh.. I am only wondering! This is called "How it Works" and I want to know how it works! This section isn't called "I'm going to do this and kill myself"!
maybe a "what if i done this" section needs to be created, would love to see some of the threads going on in that one

I await your funniest subect headings for a "what if" section on here...
I always find things very late - anyway, if you are still out there Markys...
What if I was on a train and jumped in the air, would the end of the carriage hit me as I came down?
