UK to US text messages
2 Answers
Does anyone know which UK and US mobile networks allow SMS messages to be sent between the two networks? [reliably?] - I have a Vodafone mobile and my girlfriend has a Sprint PCS cellphone. I have tried sending texts to her phone with no luck, and our attempts are hampered by another gaping big problem: US phones tend to not even know what an SMS message is, most of them sending text messages via email instead :-\ confusing. Managed to get one from my friend's T-Mobile phone to hers, but it arrived 6 hours later. Not useful really.
Any alternative method would be good - at the moment I have my mobile registered on a spare email address on MSN Messenger as a mobile device, so can send messages as: My Mobile <--> Her MSN Messenger account on her PC. Can also send messages from my Yahoo Messenger account on my PC to her cellphone. That's hardly an ideal solution though.
Anyway, to sum up, does anyone know of either 1] a pair of providers that will reliably send text messages across the atlantic? Or if not, 2] a way to use some kind of messaging service on the internet to sort-of 'translate' messages and relay them from one handset to the other? Apologies for the length of this problem... any help would be greatly appreciated [and cheaper than phone calls]!

She did have problems sending but not receiving until something on her phone was put right (sorry I don't know what it was at this moment). You can chat through various Instant Messaging programs over the internet (ICQ, MSN, YAHOO, AOL) or eyeball chat, etc.
Why stick to just text msgs when u can buy a mic and webcam and see & hear each other too.
Yep... we've got the whole webcam thing going on aswell [lol, i posted a question right next to this in search of a better webcam program]. Still, when we're both not at the PC, there's no way for us to send a quick message to each other. The ideal method would be text messages, but alas, without me and her going out and trying every single network provider combination possible, i wouldn't know. Just asked on here in case anybody had already had success.
