I need your help, Have been caught speeding at 100 - 110mph...

Hi there,

Before you all scorne me i understand that driving at 110mph isnt exactly clever so please, i am only after constructive advice.

I have been caught by a patrol car who sat behind me on the motorway at 10pm at night doing an average of 100mph over 1.4 miles. they claim i went upto 110mph but dont have a radar gun reading or anything and im pretty sure i wasnt going 110.

The traffic was non existant on the night yet on the 2 bobbies statements 1 said it was medium moving at a steady rate and one said it was light and sparse....surely this is contradictory?

Basically i have a great job in which i have just been promoted, if i loose my licence i can pretty much wave goodbye to this....

does anyone know what to expect or have any ideas?

the amount of traffic surely doesnt matter. You were speeding and as such should accept the penalty.

Don't think you will get the advice you need here. I would sit down with a lawyer, yes it will cost you but you may end up keeping your licence with his advice.

I think that legal advice is the best option here and I am sure that the officers statements would be accepted as 'their own opinion' or perception of how 'they' would describe the traffic.

There is often a lesser sentance for an early plea and as you are not actually denying the offence, then it may well be in your interest to go to court, admit the offence at which time you will be given an opportunity to speak with the magistrates, explain that there was very little traffic on the roads and you felt that you were not putting others at risk by driving the way that you were driving but that you fully appreciate that this was an offence.

Of course all of this will also depend very much on any prior convictions that you may have and indeed, on what magistrates you get on the day!

It's pretty standard to lose one's licence for a month (or more) over 100mph on the motorway.

No radar or photographic evidence is necessary. The testimony of the police officers who followed you will suffice.

Most benches apply a short disqualification (28-56 days) for speeds in excess of 100mph. For 110mph this is almost a certainty.
