Hi all...I wasn't sure which category to put this in...I couldn't sleep last night, and as usual, my mind started wandering into strange territories...Ooooo errr....lol

Something really puzzles me...How do deaf people wake up on time in the morning?

Sorry if this is stupid/obvious...

my wee old mum is almost totally deaf now and she has to put an alarm clock under her pillow so she feels the vibration, doesnt always work, its a wee shame

Oooooooh ok, I never thought of a vibrating alarm...
But then, how did people manage when there weren't any?
Wee kiss to your mum btw! x
the place is wired up in a loop system, as she would have to know if the smoke alarm went off ! theres a vibrating plate for that too, the door bell and phone have a flashing lamp
d'ye know what, i jump right out my seat when the phone goes, in fact - pmsl - Hau Kola nearly sh!t herself when she was up for the weekend we visited mum for an hour and wee bro phoned, Kola nearly had a coronary
Their other half whacks them on the head to wake em up

Question Author
Nope, I don't actually....lol
Alarm clocks have only been readily accessible to ordinary households for 80 years or so.

How on earth did we manage before then - deaf or not?

Factory horns and the knocker-up

Sorry to miss the other posts out but my aunt and her daughter (my cousin) are deaf and they feel through vibrations.
Strange as it may seem to us -it is normal for them.
Question Author
True ethel, I hadn't even thought of that. I suppose it's because it takes a lot to wake me up, I don't know how I'd do without a very loud alarm!
Denise, vibrating alarms seem to be the norm then. Thanks all, question answered! :O)
by the light you wally
You offensive tw@t, lung cancer. What a shame that the triumph of your skill must needs be private to you.
You can get *under pillow* and *under mattress* nudgers, as well as sonic alarms and flashing light alarms - just check out the RNID website's shop
