Cable STB not responding to remote

I recently changed my rather knackered Panasonic plasma for a Hitachi LCD. Ever since then, whenever I turn the TV on, the cable box stops responding to the remote for about 15 minutes.

If the cable box happens to be on standby, I can switch it on but it then stops responding.

It does it both with the original remote and a universal I have set up for it.

Any ideas? It's connected by standard round (i.e. not flat so all wires may not be connected) Scart cable to the primary external port on the TV.
