How long does it take for life to get better
7 Answers
Currently homeless, albeit sleeping on a mates floor, how long does it take to get off the streets? I am not a druggy nor an alcoholic nor am I claiming benefits as I have a small amount of savings but not enough to get me into a house or a flat!

Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time.
My advice would be this. Secure an address (if you're friend allows you to stay.... use it). With a fulltime address under your belt, get some form of employment, If you are not currently claiming benefits, then even the minimum wage is better than your present situation. Working and recieving a wage will also begood from a physcological point of view.
You mentioned that you have savings, so i assume that you have a bank account, if not open on account as soon as possible.
hang in there..... Alan Sugar started out without a pot to p*ss in!

Where I am at the moment they have free internet access for library users, this is a godsend as it means that I keep trying to find jobs (which are all very well and good, plenty of them, but they are jobs for which I have no experience in), roof etc. I have approached the local council but as I do not have a local connection or fleeing violence they won't touch me with a barge pole! I have tried to claim benefits and they have turned me down as I left my previous job rather than being sacked, my boss was a bullying madman!
I have no family to turn to as they abandoned me years ago, cue the violins! My mate is working and I am using the address as a care of address for work reasons all ready. I got turned down for a job in a fast food place because I am over qualified! I have a BSc that I cannot use as there is a lack of that kind of job here.

What kind of work experience do you have at any level? Sales?, Customer Service? Waiting tables?
Give me a clue and i'll try and come up with a good suggestion..
In answer to your "How long does it take to get better"? question, i cant give an amount of time, but i can say i was in a very dificult place a few years ago, i had 2 choices, keep my chin up and keep trying anything and everything to improve my situation, or give into the gloom and let it get worse..
I had to give myself a pep talk every now and then, but i chose the former option, and eventually it paid off.. It took time and hard work- working 3 jobs over 7 days a week, but i did it and life is good. Plus i now know that i have the internal guts to cope with almost anything so lifes problems seem that much easier now!

grumpy, when going for a mcD type job don't tell them about your masters in nuclear science then they won't realise you are over qual'ed.
check if it's worth industrial trybunaling or at least starting proceedings so you can maybe claim benifits then.
