kill root system of a sycamore tree

We cut down a large sycamore tree in the garden about 2 years ago to about 0.5m above ground level. we removed the bark from the stump. this year shoots are growing out from around the base of the tree and one shoot is growing from the soil approx 1m from the tree on adjacent property. how do i kill the stump and roots?

look in yellow pages under tree surgeopns or services and get a man with a stump grinder to visit you and grind out the stump. any remaining distant shoots will then be detatched from the root system and will either die or can be treated with weed killer

You could get a digger in to remove it but generally a stump grinder is the best bet. If you simply want to kill it drill lots of holes an inch ot two deep in the top of the stump just inside the bark and fill them with SBK. This will kill it but it will be many years before the stump rots away

and while the stump is rotting, the suckers will be growing roots of their own and turning into trees!!

If you do that it will kill the shoots described, it wouldn't kill suckers off the roots but sycamores don't sucker like that anyway I'd go for a grinder or digger (having a digger biases me to that lol) but I looked at the question again and decided to answer the specific question "how do I kill the stump and roots?"
