single phase motor
2 Answers
hi,
can someone remind me please:
I have just obtained a a cement mixer and the connection lead is missing. it is single phase, with a very large capacitor strapped to the motor. I know this is to kick the motor off from a standing start, but can' t remember if the capacitor should be in series or pararell( it doesn't look right which ever way I spell it) with the motor. I know all about safety etc. so just need a sensible answer please, not " call an electrician" or similar advice from people who don't know what they are talking about.
don't I know how to make friends!
no, only a joke. all advice greatfully received .
regards,
alf.

Normally on a single phase motor, the Neutral will be connected to one end of each motor winding.
The Live will be connected to main winding (directly), the phase shifted winding will be connected to the Live via the capacitor (in series with) providing the phase shift.
Hope that makes some sense.
