I did that once with an Army Sherpa van and after parking it 200 yards away the engine continued to run for a minute AFTER I took the key out of the ignition. I only realised my mistake when the REME Warrant Officer came looking for 'the f***ing idiot' who had necessitated the stripping down of the whole engine!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
coorrr philtaz, its army stories like that the kids would love. much better than usual "during the war" stuff. But as for the problem, i wouldnt think youd have tooo much trouble, petrol in a diesel is a serious issue but one of my old chronies used to top his tank up with diesel for economic issues. Diesel in a petrol engine should just require a flush out. Remember its the GREEN one!
Maybe a few years ago you might get away with topping up with Diesel but these days it will destroy your CAT and filters. Do not drive the car, call a mechanic and he will be able to check it out.
Happened to me once.I had a V12 Jaguar and filled BOTH tanks with deisel.Lots of smoke but drivable and it got me home and then to garage for a flush out.Other than that no problem.
I thought the nozzles for unleaded petrol and diesel were different sizes and the filler hole when you take off the cap was so it shouldn't happen.
Perhaps next time you will concentrate (petrol smells differently). If you cannot read Petrol and Diesel then perhaps your eyesight is so bad you shouldn't be driving.
