I was seated near the exit, went into the galley to wait in the toilet queue. I was surprised to note a HUGE bag, about 1mx1mx1m, occupying most of the width between me and the exit door. Surely a major safety hazard? If I had to get out of a smokey plane, how could I get past it? I kicked it a little and asked what it was, so surprised, the cabin girl asked me to get out of the galley. ?????

ps If it's dangerous, I should report it, but where???
Not surprised she asked you to get out- i'd be a bit miffed if you kicked my bag too.

well, tapped it with my foot. gently.
gem, ignore BOO's superficial and inconceived answer, you are quite correct, this bag, whoever it belongs to, is obstructing an emergency exist, which has to be kept clear at all times. Which airline was it? I would have asked for an explanation by the pursar or chief steward.

I don't mind jokey answers, makes the day go in faster.
Was a major budget airline.
I didn't report it at the time. I feel I should now. How should I go about this now?
I'm a bit peeved that my safety was so compromised.
Honestly, I feel that we in a state of "shutting the stable door afterthe horse has bolted" You really should have mentioned it at the time, but I quite understand your reluctance. You need the flight number, date and time of flight and then send it to the Personel Dept of that particular airline.
It probably contained the pilot's salary, or the bonus of the Chairman of British Airways!
Here in the U.S. the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is always interested in hearing verified reports such as yours. I'd strongly (being a pilot myself) urge you to call your equivialent, probably the CAA. Be sure to have the flight number and date of your lfight when you talk to them.
It could be a continuing problem with that airline (a definite no-no, by the way) and it's important the information be shared... By the way, here's the CAA web site:

Best of luck!

sqad, what should i have done, thrown the bag off?
Thanks Clanad. They airline have other problems and seemingly a confirmed culture of safety abuse.
I'm pretty p!ssed. 100 people could have died as a result. In flight safety briefing my a##.
Clanad is spot on. I think that you misunderstood my answer in that I was only suggesting that you shouldnhave mentioned thisat the time.

I'm scared of stewardesses. They would maybe have me arrested for misbehaving. It was their bag I think. No way the pilot would allow it...
