My elderly neighbours have 3 gas fires and I believe they haven't had a safety check for a number of years and they have now been advised not to use them. Can anybody advise roughly how much a safety check on these 3 fires will cost so they can start using them this winter.
My mum who is an OAP gets a free annual gas check from her gas supplier (Scottish Power). I think most suppliers offer this so it's worth giving them a call.
I believe that if your are over 60 you are entitled to join your Gas suppliers 'Priority Services Register' which means that amongst other benefits you get an annual fire safety check, I don't know the actual details, but it's worth looking into, hope this helps.....................welsh
its not just a safety check they need, the fires need to be serviced on a yearly basis.
you hear a lot about the dangers of boilers and carbon monoxide but fires are capable of filling your room with deadly fumes in seconds if they are not maintained properly.
we charge 40 to service a fire but would do all 3 for 100.
if your in the birmingham area or just south of it give me a shout.
