Report says "The money will go on measures such as protecting houses, schools and farms against flooding"

I wonder how the people who are still living in caravans in THIS country from LAST YEARS floods feel about that.

They are probably releive that they got 133 Million+ twice as much.

"Last summer's floods were the worst for a generation, affecting 48,000 homes and prompting over 180,000 insurance claims.
"While councils and insurers continue working to get people back home as quickly as possible, and 133 million Government funding has been made available to communities to help them get back on their feet, the floods showed that individuals can also do their bit to minimise flooding risk and damage."

And I suppose it was apalling that we give money when Children in Africa are starving in famines.

If you want a disgrace look in the mirror.

I have friends that are still out of their homes from flooding - it's the insurance companies that are blocking progress not the government.

Stop trying to make political capital out of peoples suffering!
Nearly 700 people died last week because of the floods in Bangladesh. If we can help our fellow man (we are a very wealthy country), then we should do so.

The figure is less than expenses claimed by our MPs last year (87.6M).

OMG....wont our Gov ever learn that this aid is seen as imperialism and treated with disdain among the middle east countries.

Apologies will be demanded of our Gov in 20y for interloping other countries affairs.

Most of the homes washed away were wooden shacks. 75m hopefully will be used for modern infastructure......bet, the local gov ministers just get fat!

natures checks and balances,

its noticable that many natural 'disasters' seem to effect areas of the world over-populated by people who cant understand the basic equation of:-

dont keep knocking out kids when you cant manage to grow enough food for your populaion now,

quality is better long term than quantity,

no incentive to be morally responsible when 'wealthy' (not by luck) countries bail them out again.
How much has America, China or Russia sent?
Ah, heart-warming. The brotherhood of man.

We're very very lucky to be born into this stable, climate, wealthy country. Or at least I think so. It genuinely gladdens me that we help those who suffer catastrophic loss.

And, as someone who has family and friends that were affected by last summer's flooding and still aren't living at home, I can tell you that most would rather put up with that than see hundreds of people die. Perspective, you see.

Of course if we did keep all our money and spend it on causes inside the UK, and let the rest of the world go to hell, we'd be even more of an attractive destination for illegal immigration. And imagine how much of a tizzy you'd be in then. Woooo!
Had you made this statement about 37 years ago then you would have been spot on. It was Pakistan at that time and not any more.
There are rich countries and poor countries. Either the rich countries should send aid to poor countries in time of crisis, or we let people from poor countries come and live here? Which would you choose? I'm interested.
